The Planetary Society Sweepstakes — Egypt Total Solar Eclipse Expedition

1. Sweepstakes Overview

This sweepstakes is sponsored by The Planetary Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. By entering, you agree to be bound by the official rules.

Grand Prize (summary): A Total Solar Eclipse Expedition in Egypt (approximate retail value $26,000), including a 10-day / 9-night journey July 30 – August 8, 2027 (eclipse on August 2, 2027). The package includes luxury hotels in Cairo and Luxor, a 4-night Nile River cruise, a $2,500 international travel stipend, domestic flights Cairo–Luxor and Aswan–Cairo, astronomer/scientist guides, an Egyptologist, lectures, an eclipse photography workshop, an Earth Moves Oceanic watch, and Celestron EclipSmart 10x42mm Solar Porro Binoculars. Egypt entry visa and travel insurance are not included; international airfare beyond the stipend is the winner’s responsibility.

2. Eligibility

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be a legal resident of a jurisdiction where sweepstakes are legal
  • Void where prohibited by law
  • Prize is not transferable

3. How to Enter

Standard Entry Method: Enter through the official TapKat sweepstakes page. Each qualifying entry constitutes one entry.

Alternative Method of Entry (AMOE): No purchase necessary. Follow the AMOE instructions on the TapKat sweepstakes page.

4. Prize Details

Prize details are governed by the official rules. Prize travel details are also subject to Sirius Travel’s terms and conditions. A valid passport and travel insurance are required.

5. Important Dates

  • Launch: on or before August 12, 2026
  • Entries Close: December 10, 2026 at 11:59 PM PST
  • Winner Drawing: December 18, 2026 at 12:00 PM PST (Los Angeles, CA)
  • Travel Dates: July 30 – August 8, 2027
  • Eclipse Day: August 2, 2027

6. Drawing and Winner Selection

The winner will be selected in a random drawing on the winner drawing date listed above. The winner will be contacted via the information provided during entry.

7. General Conditions

  • No purchase or payment necessary to enter or win
  • Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received
  • Prize is non-transferable
  • Winner must respond to notification within the timeframe described in the official rules

8. Taxes and Legal

Winner is responsible for all federal, state, and local taxes on the prize. A Form 1099 will be issued if required by law.

9. Limitation of Liability

The Planetary Society is not responsible for technical failures, lost or delayed entries, or any issues beyond reasonable control.
